It was wonderful to hear about the positive effect that your Mother-in-law experienced after you connected with her. I think that choosing to include a letter of explanation with your gift was a great choice and probably added a lot of meaning to the exercise for both of you. I think you'll really enjoy the gratitude letter and visit later in the quarter.
I can totally relate to your mood lifting activity- a hot bath with the lights out to is hard to beat when it comes to chilling out...just add some candles and a glass of wine and you've got my ideal evening!
