On this cold winter afternoon, I was warmed by reading about the gift you so lovingly shared with someone who is facing challenges. So many of these activities are win-win for both giver and receiver, and I also think it goes beyond that in modeling pro-social behavior for your daughter.
Regarding your poetry, you might be interested in James Pennebaker's (University of Texas at Austin) decades-long work on the psychological and physical health benefits of self-disclosure (whether talking to another, journaling, or recording it on a tape). His classic book is titled, "Opening Up."
