Leistus ferruginosus, Mannerheim 1843

Identification:
This species is small (8.2-8.5 mm) and dark brown to yellow-brown, elytra often with a trace of iridescent lustre. Prothorax strongly constricted towards base; third elytral stria with three to four dorsal punctures.

Range:
Western North America from the Kenai Peninsula, Alaska to Oregon, extending to western Alberta.

Natural History:
Restricted to lowland areas of deciduous forest; adults found in red alder leaf litter or on moist half shaded ground usually near running water. Often found under Alnus and Salix bushes.
