Mayor Amanda Smith of Olympia in 1954, outlawed all gambling in Olympia. The Spar lost its card room and all other types of gambling were removed from the Spar. In 1958, Shirley Allen becomes a waitress at the Spar, and her witty sense of humor and big heart make her a favorite at the Spar.
