“A Beautiful Day”

My beautiful day was yesterday. It was the first Saturday in a long time that I didn’t have school, work, or any plans. I tried to think of a bunch of simple and relaxing things I could do that would still incorporate Seligman’s definition of the ‘full life’. This was the plan I came up with, however, I provided the flexibility to change plans if necessary.

EMP Experience

My thoughts before going to the EMP were excitement but nervousness for a new experience. I wasn’t sure what to expect, I had never been before. I wasn’t sure how to handle the assignment or if I really understood what I was supposed to do with it. I have had a stressful month so regardless I was looking forward to going to Seattle and getting away from it all.

The Resilience Factor

The Resilience Factor by Karen Reivich and Andrew Shatte was eye-opening. I am apparently not as resilient as I once thought. I took the tests expecting to pass with flying colors but unfortunately I ranked well below average. I have overcome so much in my life that I thought that meant I was resilient but the definition of resilient is also different than I once thought. On page 26 the author says that, “resilience is a mind-set that enables you to seek out new experiences and to view your life as a work in progress.”  After taking the tests I am realize that this is something that I need to strive for.

3 Blessings and gratitude letter

Three Blessings

I tried to come up with global, personal, and specific blessing for each day. There were specific blessing that came up every day. I am always thankful for my family and my sobriety, with out those two things there may not be much else to be thankful for.

The activity of coming up with blessing each day was helpful and a great experience, one that I plan to continue. However, as far as producing positive dreams… I struggled. The past couple weeks have been really tough as I have been working through a loss of a close friend. I dreamt about that almost every night because although I tried to focus on positive thoughts my thoughts deep down won the battle.
