Postage Stamps Honor TV’s Golden Age

You’re traveling through another dimension, one where, for 44 cents, small items of correspondence can be dropped into blue boxes that will transport them around the country. Your next stop: the post office. The United States Postal Service started selling its new “Early TV Memories” stamps this week, honoring television shows from the 1950s and ’60s. Among the performers featured are Groucho Marx of “You Bet Your Life”; Jackie Gleason and Art Carney of “The Honeymooners”; Vivian Vance and Lucille Ball, above middle, of “I Love Lucy”; and Rod Serling, above, of “The Twilight Zone.” The series was introduced Tuesday to a group in Los Angeles that included June Lockhart, 84, of “Lassie,” whose collie, top, is on a stamp.
